PrizePicks Launches Digital Trading Card Rips With Packs

The rip is going digital. PrizePicks — the daily fantasy company — just launched Packs: pay anywhere from $1 to $2,500 in the app, a real physical card sitting in a storage facility gets revealed, and you either have it shipped or sell it back on the spot at its stated value. Odds and value ranges are shown before you buy. Underdog launched the same idea last month, Fanatics is already in the space, and the Rips app has been downloaded more than six million times since last October — half of those in just the last two months.

The gambling comparisons come with the territory: randomized outcomes, instant resale, repeat purchases in seconds. TikTok Shop has already tightened its rules around randomized breaks, and the industry's answer is that cards are collectibles, not wagers. Both things can be true at once — a pack has always been a small gamble; the digital version just removes the wrapper, the wait, and the shoebox.

Our take stays the same either way. Rip for the thrill — we do. But when you know the exact card you want, the second door is still the surer one: buy the single, already pulled, and skip the odds entirely.
